The launch was in the mid river. It was then 6.30 in the evening. People were returning home from offices, so the vessel was jam packed. Dark clouds overcast the sky and a hard wind was blowing to remind everyone that a storm was approaching at a fast pace. As usual I was busy chatting with Arun without bothering about the approaching disaster.
Suddenly a whirlwind hit the launch hard, the water of the river dashed against the vessel to synchronize the disastrous impact .An old man, seemed to be a beggar, fell into water having lost his balance the moment the vessel leaned on one side. Arun, my friend, who was busy chatting with me, spared no moment to dive in the turbulent river water without brooding over what would happen to him.
In the dim light of the launch we noticed Arun trying to draw the old man close to the launch but it was really an effort as the old man had no power to cooperate him. The unprecedented happening made him dazed. Arun with his full vigor was fighting against the swelling waves and with one hand he grabbed the shabby garment of the helpless old man to draw him close to the launch.
A true hero can never be defeated. Fortune always smiles on the braves. Arun using every bit of his vibrant energy drew the man close to the vessel. Everybody on the boat was elated and Arun and the old man were lifted up on the deck by the crews of the launch who did not dare to dive into water to assist Arun. Both of them were almost senseless.
Today Arun is an account executive in a multinational company but whenever he faces any crisis he tries all the time to make doing something that suits a hero like him.
